The tape is designed for ease of application. It’s easily repositionable during installation, meaning you can lift and reapply the tape without it losing its adhesion. This flexibility allows for a clean, wrinkle-free installation every time. Additionally, Fix-It-Fast Joist Guard is easily torn by hand, allowing the installer to apply the tape without the use of knives or scissors.
Fix-It-Fast Joist Guard is engineered to withstand the harshest of climates, from frigid temperatures as low as -20°C to scorching heat up to 120°C, ensuring that your deck’s foundation remains secure through all seasons.
- Prep Ensure joists and bearers are clean, dry and free from dust, sawdust, oils and loose debris.
- Apply Measure and cut Joist Guard to length, then peel off the release liner and apply along the top of the joist or bearer, keeping it straight and centred.
- Seal & Install Press down firmly along the full length (especially edges). Overlap joins by at least 25mm, then install decking boards as normal.

What is Fix-It-Fast Joist Guard used for?
Fix-It-Fast Joist Guard is a sealing tape designed to protect joists and bearers by creating a barrier between the timber frame and the decking boards. It helps prevent water penetration, reducing the risk of rot and extending the life of your deck substructure.
Where should Joist Guard be applied?
Joist Guard should be applied to the top of joists and bearers anywhere decking boards will sit. It can also be used on horizontal timber surfaces exposed to moisture, particularly in deck framing and outdoor structures.
Does Joist Guard stick to treated pine and hardwood?
Yes. Joist Guard is suitable for use on common deck framing timbers including treated pine and hardwood. For best adhesion, ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from sawdust or oils before applying.
Can I apply Joist Guard in wet or cold conditions?
Joist Guard should be applied to a dry surface for best results. If the timber is wet, allow it to dry before applying. In colder weather, keep the tape warm before use and press firmly to ensure full adhesion.
How do I join sections of Joist Guard tape?
When joining lengths, overlap the tape by at least 25mm to ensure a continuous seal along the joist or bearer.
Do I install decking boards over Joist Guard as normal?
Yes. Once applied and firmly pressed down, install your decking boards as normal. Joist Guard is designed to sit between the framing timber and the deck boards without affecting installation.
